NewJeans (뉴진스) is a South Korean girl group formed by ADOR, a label within HYBE. The group debuted with five members, Minji (민지), Hanni (하니), Danielle (다니엘), Haerin (해린) and Hyein (혜인), on July 22, 2022, when the music video for its first single, "Attention", came out with no advance announcement. Their debut EP, New Jeans, sold more than a million copies, the best-selling debut album by a K-pop female act in South Korea.1
"Ditto", released that December, topped the Circle Digital Chart for thirteen weeks, the longest run at number one in the chart's history.1 It was also their first entry on the US Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number 82.3 At the end of 2023, NewJeans won Artist of the Year and "Ditto" won Song of the Year at both the MAMA Awards and the Melon Music Awards, making them the first female artist to win both Artist of the Year awards in the same year.1 These are daesang (대상), the grand prizes at the top of a Korean awards show, and all four are listed in DabPop's MAMA Awards and Melon Music Awards archives.45
Their second EP, Get Up, debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 in August 2023 with 126,500 equivalent album units, making NewJeans the second female K-pop act to top that chart, after BLACKPINK.23 Its three singles, "Super Shy", "ETA" and "Cool With You", were on the Hot 100 at the same time, a first for a K-pop girl group; "Super Shy" peaked at number 48.23 Across 2023 they sold 4.39 million albums, the most by a K-pop female artist in a single year, and the IFPI, the global recording-industry body, ranked them eighth on its chart of the year's best-selling artists worldwide.1 Four of the five members have held global or house ambassador roles with luxury brands, seven houses in all, as DabPop's luxury ambassador list records.6
In a lawsuit ADOR filed in December 2024 to confirm that the members' exclusive contracts were valid, the Seoul Central District Court ruled on October 30, 2025, that the contracts remained in force, finding insufficient grounds for ending them. The members announced the same day that they would appeal.7
