CJ ENM씨제이이엔엠

CJ ENM (씨제이이엔엠; short for CJ Entertainment and Merchandising) is a South Korean entertainment and retail company in the CJ Group. It took its present form on July 1, 2018, when the group merged two of its companies: the media business CJ E&M and the home-shopping business CJ O Shopping.¹ CJ E&M had itself been formed in 2011 by merging seven CJ Group companies, among them Mnet Media and the film company CJ Entertainment.² CJ ENM now has two divisions, Entertainment and Commerce. The entertainment division runs the music channel Mnet, the drama and variety network tvN, the OCN channels and the drama studio Studio Dragon, and it stages the MAMA Awards and the KCON fan conventions.¹²

Mnet broadcasts the weekly music show M Countdown and survival shows such as Produce 101.³ It has presented the MAMA Awards since 1999, and DabPop's archive of every MAMA daesang (grand prize, the top tier of a Korean awards show) shows BTS with the most, 21.⁴ The ceremony first left South Korea in 2010, for Macau, and in 2024 opened in Los Angeles, its first ceremony outside Asia.⁵ The 2026 edition is set for Osaka on November 20–21.⁶ Mnet's Produce 101 Season 2 formed Wanna One in 2017, and more than 16 million people voted during its live finale.⁷ On May 29, 2020, a Seoul court found the producers of the Produce series guilty of manipulating its viewer-vote rankings; Mnet had already said its shows would use an "observer system", with ordinary people and third parties overseeing the votes (see how survival shows pick their debut lineups).⁸⁹

tvN, launched on October 9, 2006, airs dramas and variety shows. The final episode of its drama Queen of Tears (눈물의 여왕) drew a 24.850% nationwide rating from Nielsen Korea in 2024, and tvN dramas hold 28 of the 50 places on Wikipedia's list of the highest-rated Korean cable dramas.¹⁰ In film, CJ Entertainment, now CJ ENM Films & Television, began distributing films in 1995.¹¹ It released Parasite in South Korea, and, counting the distributor named in each film's Wikipedia article, eight Blue Dragon Best Film winners, from Joint Security Area (2000) to No Other Choice (2025), more than any other distributor.¹² KCON, its fan convention, was first held in Southern California in 2012.¹³
