G-Dragon's second Artist of the Year

The most recent show, on November 28–29, 2025 at Kai Tak Stadium in Hong Kong, came two days after the Wang Fuk Court fire in the city, and several performances were cancelled or toned down.2 G-Dragon (지드래곤; real name Kwon Ji-yong, 권지용) won Artist of the Year, 12 years after he first won it in 2013. He is the only soloist ever to win the category; every other winner has been a group.3
The other three grand prizes went to first-time daesang winners: ROSÉ (로제) and Bruno Mars for "APT." (Song of the Year), Stray Kids (스트레이 키즈) for Karma (Album of the Year) and ENHYPEN (엔하이픈), who took Fans' Choice of the Year.215

BTS have won 21 of the 82 grand prizes, more than three times as many as any other act: Artist of the Year seven years running (2016–2022), Album of the Year five times (2018–2022), Song of the Year three times (2019–2021) and Worldwide Icon of the Year six years running (2018–2023).3456 Guinness World Records lists them as the act with the most MAMA daesang; its entry counts 17, the total as of December 11, 2021.10
In 2022 the show added the MAMA Platinum award for artists who had won all four grand prizes in a single night, and BTS were its first and so far only recipients.2 Member Jimin (지민) won one more as a soloist: Fans' Choice of the Year in 2024.6
2019
The first clean sweep

At Nagoya Dome in Japan on December 4, 2019, BTS won Artist of the Year, Song of the Year ("Boy With Luv"), Album of the Year (Map of the Soul: Persona) and Worldwide Icon of the Year. It was the first time a single act took every daesang on offer in one year; no act had taken all three in the 2006–2017 era either.210 Fans call this a daesang "all-kill".
They did it again at the next two shows, held in Paju, South Korea in 2020 (with no audience, because of the COVID-19 pandemic) and 2021.211
2013–2017
EXO 엑소: five Albums of the Year in a row

EXO won Album of the Year at five straight shows: XOXO (2013), Overdose (2014), Exodus (2015), Ex'Act (2016) and The War (2017). Only BTS have matched or beaten that run in any category. EXO also won Artist of the Year in 2014, for six grand prizes in all, the second-highest total.35
2016–2018
TWICE 트와이스: three Songs of the Year in a row

TWICE won Song of the Year three times running, for "Cheer Up" (2016), "Signal" (2017) and "What Is Love?" (2018). BTS also have three Song of the Year wins, but no other act has won the category three years in a row.412
2010
The first show outside Korea
Macau
The ceremony left South Korea for the first time in 2010, a year after it was renamed the Mnet Asian Music Awards. The show was held at The Venetian Macao on November 28, and 2NE1 (투애니원) won two of its three grand prizes, Artist of the Year and Album of the Year (To Anyone).1214
Since then 48 of the 82 daesang have been handed out abroad, in Macau, Singapore, Hong Kong and Japan. Hong Kong has hosted the most: 25 daesang across eight editions.2
2024
The first show in the United States
Los Angeles + Osaka
The 2024 edition opened on November 21 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, the first MAMA held in the US and the first outside Asia. All four daesang were presented at the two nights that followed at Kyocera Dome Osaka.12
SEVENTEEN (세븐틴) won Artist of the Year and Album of the Year (Seventeenth Heaven), aespa (에스파) won Song of the Year for "Supernova", and Jimin won the newly renamed Fans' Choice of the Year.26
1999
The first daesang
Music videos
The show began on November 27, 1999 in Seoul as a music video awards night, the Mnet Video Music Awards. Its two grand prizes were both for videos: Lee Seung-hwan (이승환) won Music Video of the Year for "A Request" (당부), and H.O.T. (에이치오티) won Best Popular Music Video for "I Yah!" (아이야!).127
H.O.T. won the popular prize again in 2000. BoA (보아) is the only act to win both video daesang, the popular prize in 2002 and Music Video of the Year in 2004. In 2006 the video prizes were replaced by today's Artist, Song and Album of the Year.27
