BIGBANG빅뱅
BIGBANG (빅뱅) is a South Korean boy group formed by YG Entertainment. It made its official debut on August 19, 2006, at YG's 10th-anniversary family concert at the Olympic Gymnastics Arena in Seoul.1 The group debuted with five members and now has three: G-Dragon (지드래곤), Taeyang (태양) and Daesung (대성). Seungri left the group in 2019 and T.O.P in 2023.2
Its 2007 single "Lies" (거짓말) was its first number one and topped Korean charts for six weeks in a row.1 It also won Song of the Year at the 2007 Mnet KM Music Festival, the show now called the MAMA Awards. BIGBANG has won five MAMA daesang (grand prizes) in all: Artist of the Year in 2008, 2012 and 2015, and Song of the Year for "Lies" and for "Bang Bang Bang" (2015).3 At the 2015 Melon Music Awards it won both Artist and Song of the Year.4 Eleven of its singles have reached number one on South Korea's Gaon Digital Chart (now the Circle Digital Chart); the 11th, "Still Life" (2022), set the record for any group.1
In the US, the 2012 EP Alive reached number 150 on the Billboard 200, the first Korean album to enter that chart, and the 2016 album Made reached number 172.15 The Made World Tour (2015–16) drew 1.5 million people, a record for a tour by a Korean act at the time.1 On YouTube, "Bang Bang Bang" is the group's most-viewed music video, with 854,377,009 views, followed by "Fantastic Baby" with 676,583,311.6
G-Dragon, Taeyang and Daesung began their military service in February and March 2018 and were all discharged by November 10, 2019.1 At the 2025 Melon Music Awards, G-Dragon's "Home Sweet Home", featuring Taeyang and Daesung, won Song of the Year.4 In March 2026 YG Entertainment announced a world tour for the group's 20th anniversary, and the trio played the Coachella festival in California in April 2026, six years after its 2020 booking was cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.27
