SEVENTEEN세븐틴
SEVENTEEN (세븐틴), often shortened to SVT, is a South Korean boy group formed by Pledis Entertainment. Its 13 members are S.Coups, Jeonghan, Joshua, Jun, Hoshi, Wonwoo, Woozi, DK, Mingyu, The8, Seungkwan, Vernon and Dino. The name comes from "13 members + 3 teams + 1 group": the members also work as hip-hop, vocal and performance units. They are known as a "self-producing" group, with members writing, producing and choreographing their own songs.1 Pledis has had HYBE as its majority shareholder since May 25, 2020, and is part of the HYBE Labels group.2 SEVENTEEN debuted with a live showcase on May 26, 2015, and their first EP, 17 Carat, came out three days later.1
Their album sales set records in 2023. The EP FML sold 3.9 million copies on its first day and 4.5 million in its first week, and the IFPI, the global recording-industry body, named it the best-selling album of 2023. Seventeenth Heaven followed that October with more than 5.2 million pre-orders, the most for any K-pop album, and its single "God of Music" was their first song to top the weekly Circle Digital Chart.1 Both albums won Album of the Year at the MAMA Awards, in 2023 and 2024, and SEVENTEEN also took Artist of the Year in 2024. These are daesang (대상), the grand prizes at the top of a Korean awards show, and all three are listed in DabPop's MAMA Awards archive.3
They are also one of K-pop's biggest live acts. Four of the 10 tours on DabPop's list of the highest-grossing K-pop concert tours are theirs: the Right Here World Tour (#4, $120.9 million), the Follow Tour (#5, $111.4 million), the New World Tour (#6, $88.0 million from 25 of its 31 shows) and the Be the Sun World Tour (#9, $57.1 million).4 In June 2024 they became the first K-pop act to play Glastonbury Festival in England, on its Pyramid Stage, and that month UNESCO named them its first Goodwill Ambassador for Youth.1
Military service is mandatory for South Korean men, and since 2024 the members have been serving in turn. Jeonghan was the first to enlist, on September 26, 2024, and the first to finish, on June 25, 2026. Vernon enlisted in August 2026, DK and Mingyu in September, and Seungkwan and Dino are due to go in October, as DabPop's 2026 military service timeline records.5
