EXO엑소
EXO (엑소) are a South Korean boy band formed by SM Entertainment. They made their debut on April 8, 2012, with the single "Mama", as two sub-units that released the same songs at the same time: EXO-K, singing in Korean, and EXO-M, singing in Mandarin. Since the 2014 EP Overdose they have promoted as one group, though their music still mixes languages. Wikipedia lists nine current members: Xiumin, Suho, Lay, Baekhyun, Chen, Chanyeol, D.O., Kai and Sehun. Members have also formed the sub-units EXO-CBX (2016) and EXO-SC (2019).1 Their latest album, Reverxe, came out on January 19, 2026, with the lead single "Crown".1
Their first studio album, XOXO (2013), sold more than one million copies with its repackage, the first Korean act to reach that mark in 12 years, and with Don't Mess Up My Tempo in 2018 EXO became the first artist to pass 10 million total album sales in South Korea. Exist (2023), which sold more than 2 million copies at home, is their best-selling album there.1 Don't Mess Up My Tempo is also their highest-charting album on the US Billboard 200, at No. 23 in November 2018.4 In October 2015 they became the first act to hold a dome concert in South Korea, at Seoul's Gocheok Sky Dome, and in February 2018 they performed at the closing ceremony of the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.1
EXO have won 10 daesang (grand prizes, the top tier of a Korean awards show) across the two biggest year-end music shows. At the MAMA Awards they won Album of the Year five years running, for XOXO (2013), Overdose (2014), Exodus (2015), Ex'Act (2016) and The War (2017), plus Artist of the Year in 2014. Their six MAMA daesang are the second-highest total after BTS.2 At the Melon Music Awards they won Song of the Year for "Growl" (으르렁) in 2013, Album of the Year for Exodus in 2015, and Artist of the Year in 2016 and 2017.3 Two members hold global roles with luxury houses: Kai (카이) became a Gucci global brand ambassador in September 2019, and Sehun (세훈) became Dior's first male global ambassador in December 2021.5
